Happy 3rd Birthday Miles!

Well folks, he's done it. Miles has officially turned "FREE!"
(That's "THREE!" in Miles' speak.)
July 17th has been a long time coming in our household, with weeks (if not months) of anticipation. To add to the drama, we've strung out the birthday celebration over the last month in order to be able to celebrate with both sets of grandparents and cousins, as well as with Chicago friends. I've documented all three celebrations below for your viewing pleasure.

Birthday Celebration #1: Papa and Nana come to visit from Oklahoma

We took a walk around Wrigleyville

Complete with a tasty lunch at the local hot dog stand

Next stop: the bicycle shop!

Check out this big kid!!
We were amazed at how quickly he caught on . . .

and then he just wanted to race Grandpa!

Thanks for a memorable birthday celebration, Papa and Nanny!

Birthday Celebration #2: Granner and Dee
with Meyer-family Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins!

What better way to celebrate than at a vacation house in Michigan City, Indiana?!
(More on the trip itself in a future post.)

The birthday boy celebrates with some of his favorite foods: hot dogs wrapped in croissant rolls, broccoli (yes!), mac-n-cheese, and watermelon.

The theme for this party was Tigger and Winnie-the-Pooh, two of Miles' favorite "guys." When he opened his stuffed Tigger and Pooh, his immediate reaction was to tell us all to "wait a minute" as he proceeded to run to his bedroom to put his newest treasures on his bed with the rest of his sleeping buddies. He came back right away to open the rest of his gifts. Ha! I guess they were a hit!

Relaxing on the front porch with "the gang."

Some close-up shots of the (almost) 3-year-old.
Somehow, both of us these photos say to me: "CONTEMPLATION"

Thanks everybody (especially Dee and Granner) for a fun celebration!

Birthday Celebration #3: The Great Chicago Bash

This cake design is intended as a knock-off of a certain blockbuster hit playing now in theaters. Miles LOVES Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear!

After eating dinner inside our condo in the AC, we sent all the kids outside to play with water balloons under the "strict" supervision of the Kellar girls. What started as an innocent activity of "toss the water balloons" quickly turned into a game of "let's get the grown-ups." Fortunately, everyone was a good sport and no one was too worse for the wear (well, except maybe Deacon).

Next, it was time to open presents, one of Miles' favorite activities. Once again, what started out as a calm ritual quickly escalated to . . .

. . . THIS.

Miles enjoyed spending time with some of his good buddies:

Thanks for making it a great party, friends!

Okay Miles, it is time to face the facts.
This is it. You're officially three now.
No more celebrations for your 3rd birthday.
No more presents.
No more parties.
In fact, things are going to be changing around here pretty soon . . .

"Oh dear."

Happy Birthday Son!
We hope you know how much you are loved, and how proud we are to have you as a son. May God grant you MANY years!!!
